An Ella Celebration! Concert Theme, Contest, and Concert Night Information
Theme: The title of the show sums it up: this is a celebration of the great Ella Fitzgerald with a special focus on her classic Songbook recordings (from the 1950s and 60s on the Verve label). More information about the concert theme is available here and here. We’ll present a couple of songs that wander outside of the theme and one original composition by yours truly but otherwise, we’ll concentrate on well-known songs by the Greats of the Great American Songbook such as Cole Porter, George & Ira Gershwin, Duke Ellington and more. Check out this Wikipedia link to read all about the Songbook recordings series.
Date, Time and Venue: Wednesday November 29 at 8:30 p.m. at the National Arts Centre Fourth Stage. The downbeat is later as the NAC has changed things up and now all Fourth Stage concerts begin at 8:30 pm; more time for a leisurely pre-concert dinner! Doors open at 7:30 pm. and there is a small lounge near the Fourth Stage entrance. The entrance is still off Elgin Street but has been moved further inside away from the elements so it won’t be so chilly waiting to get in!
